Farming discs, single or double gang

I put an ad in the classifieds looking for a 3 point disc. I found a 12 foot single gang on Craigslist for a good price. I have never used a single gang. Will that get the job done with an extra pass or should I keep looking for a double gang?

I should add that this will be for food plots. We have a cultivator already to break up new ground so this will just be breaking that up and freshening up other ground.

I wouldn’t have any problem going with the single gang. For food plot size areas, what’s a few extra passes if necessary?

We have a 3 point 6′ double disc for food plots. I have 2 wheel weights on the thing and still have some problems getting enough depth to dig deep and turn the soil. The disc won’t breakup new ground without mutilpal passes 6+. My suggestion is to find one that is HEAVY!
Single or double the weight is what counts.
Buy as heavy as you can pull.

We have a 5′ 3 point double as well. The new 3 point tractor they have at the farm has duals so I’m looking for something wider. The one I found is only $250. I should probably just jump on it.

I have never used a single so I can’t really comment on that, but if you have a cultivator to break up the ground I would think a single gang will be fine for breaking up the cultivated dirt.
