Fall Trip to Leech Lake / Woman Lake area.

I’m preparing for a trip to the leech lake area the last week of September. I usually fish this area in July and I’m very familiar with bait and tackle to use during that time period.

This year we pushed the trip back so our kids can come up for one last trip before our daughter deploys to the Middle East for 400 days. I understand weather and water temps will dictate choices in bait / tackle, but I’m starting to gather and would like to get a head start on packing with a fine tune closer to the departure date.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Likely getting back to jig and minnow time by then. A lot of guys focus on perch in the fall and pick up the occasional walleye

What type of water will you be fishing? Woman lake fishes alot different than broadwater bay which fished different than girl and they’re all connected.

Clarity is a big factor for me on presentations.

What dates? Things can change fast depending on weather and water temperatures. Check out walleye talk podcast for the time period you are going to be there.

I was planning on fishing leech one day just to try it, woman / baby / man the remainder of the time.

I’m very familiar with baby / man just not this time of the year. On woman, I’d probably fish the main lake unless local reports tell different.

As far as species, we usually fish walleye and smallmouth bass just for fun. Perch are fun to catch but we don’t plan on keeping any. I rarely keep fish anymore unless they are unreleasable. I just enjoy getting out and spending time with family.

Should be good fishing, spinners, crankbaits, jigging, depending on water temperatures. Check out the podcast.

I’m going to be there 2nd week in Sept. Have heard they have a perch bite if you hit it right in Sept.. Been there 3 or 4 years for a week around the opener. !st time in the fall. I may hit Winnie one day with my big boat. But also taking my kayak to checkout small lakes if it’s not happening on Woman Lake. Can we say Woman, Man, and Boy lake. Or they all just Person Lake now. roll

If you go to Woman and you like pizza, this place is da bomb!
Heck they have a ramp in the parking lot. You can haul in a monster muskie on Ingaudono.
(Pretty sure I spelled that wrong)

We hit the Anchorage at least 4 times each trip up. Wild rice omelet is killer. Never tried the pizza. Have to give it a go. Any tips on eats in Walker. Usually take the wife up there one day. Take her to Reeds so she can check out the ladies dept. waytogo

That’s the one and only place we’ve tried. It was good. Any other places to try. Reeds gave us coupon for Trappers Landing. Looked a little cashy.

Baby has a public launch. you can get a bigger boat in. I don’t fish Baby much anymore but have a lot of time on Man. Specifically in summer but never in the fall.

Once my boat is back in operation I’ll be spending lots of time on leech. Rainbow and a jig bite is always up at the top of my list in the fall!

one last trip before our daughter deploys to the Middle East for 400 days.

Please tell her thank you very much for her service. I’ve spent 20 months of my life in the Middle East so if your daughter or you as the parent have any questions please reach out. Again, thanks for her service at an unsettling time.
