Pout,
Yes they did, however I don’t typically lose fish just because they go airborn. Maybe it was just an unlucky day. Brand new DT10 too.

What rod are you running cranks on and line?
I loose more fish on crankbaits I’ve noticed using braided. I’m switching over to flouro carbon to see if my loose fish numbers go down when running treble hooks
7’4 medium heavy moderate. 12 lb braid to 12 lb fluoro leader. Never lost many until today. I tried straight fluoro but I lost the sensitivity of the line and couldn’t feel when I was brushing weeds with my crankbait and went back to braid.
We’ve all had those unlucky days. Frustrating as fu@$ that’s for sure.
Largie smacked my ringworm last night, had to do a double take being on the river. Don’t catch many at all where I’m at.

Must have been odd to have a fish on that pulls back just kidding lol.
They ate everything lol
Still too warm for that magic time of the year. Water temps were in 67 – 70 in crosslake,
I’m going to take the lady out this evening for a couple rare hours of no children. She likes fishing but doesn’t go that often. Probably try and have her throw crank baits
Last evening crankbaits were pretty good, but caught mostly pike, with a few bass. Spinnerbait caught more and bigger bass. Chatterbait wasn’t too popular. Seemed like the pike were on the weed edges and the bass were more on top of the weed flats. Water temp was still 65-67 degrees in the Brainerd area.

Same. More pike than anything, probably a 4-1 ratio when I was fishing on Friday in the rain. Water temp was 68 east metro.
Well I couldn’t tell you what they were eating. But I do have a solid list of what they were NOT eating. It was a rough couple hours on the lake.
But it was beautiful out and we were able to enjoy a evening on the water with no children. Which is pretty rare.
Square Bills and Swim Jigs Saturday fished over weeds. None on Chatterbaits or Buzzbaits. Mix of Bass and Pike.
Had a chance to try out the new Berkley Maxscent tubes tonight..
Water temps still holding at 67 degrees.
It had been a terrible several weeks. My favorite lake shore spots all suffered from low water. I even stopped regularly going and went out once a week to see if there was any improvement. No dice. So today I tried the Mississippi, a little north of 694. I was rewarded with a small walleye and this fantastic smallmouth. I was wading almost knee deep, casting to what looked like the boundary of the shallower water and deeper water.
My wife was there painting so I finally was able to get a shot of me holding a fish. Usually I’m alone and only get the “foot” shot.
40.5 total inches on back-to-back casts, then no bites for over an hour. That’s Fall fishing. 54 degree water temps…
Hit the River today. It was 54 degrees on Tuesday. The bite was pretty good. Today it was 48 degrees. It was decent. I used to catch em on DT-10’s 0r DT-14’s. They only catch pike now. Tubes and Tx rigged plastics are the key now. Wish I would’ve tried a chatter bait. Need some warmer weather. I don’t want to start fishing for walleyes yet.
Those are some nice fish Fryer and Bob. Especially those brownies. That first one is a good one.
The last 2 days have been fantastic…
That is a girthy River smallmouth Bob, nice job!
Yes, on the river. The low flow and water levels this year have a TON of forage in the river. The fish are dining well with little effort this year
I posted this on another thread, but I thought I’d join the River smallie club. The temp was down to 47 yesterday. It was still pretty decent. Tubes and Tx-rigged plastics were the key. In the past DT-10’s have been good. Only catch pike on them now. I have a harder time finding them when it gets much cooler.
Got out this morning on a WI lake that I’ve been trying to figure out ever since March. Big smallies in this lake and got one 1lber the first time out there in March and got skunked the last 4 times I went in the spring. Decided to try it out again this morning and the fishing Gods finally decided they had tortured me long enough this season. 2 smallmouth 3lbs 11 oz, and 3 lb 12 oz, and a PB perch of all things at 13 inches on the nose. Caught a bunch of crappie and largemouth as well. My confidence sure needed this outing! Everything but the crappies came on a ballhead jig and a 3.25 keitech.
River was good today, too. Getting colder. Down to 47 degree water. Days are numbered I’m afraid.
Yep. My boat is regrettably going into storage this Friday. A little earlier than I had hoped but it’s the right cost, and the good part is I can take it out anytime after March 1st. Most other places I found were April 1st or even April 31st! That was not going to work.
So I’ll probably be beating the banks on the Miss for the next month before ice.
I bet you do pretty well. I fish later into the Fall every year. One year I was backing into the access. I hit something. I realized it was iced over. I had a great a sausage and cheese omelette with hash browns and a called it a year.
