Spent the last two Friday and Saturday nights camping out in a cabin at Red Door during the day and trolling the Pond at night. Contrary to popular belief, the fish are biting up there if your willing to work for them. My typical spots produced fish both weekends with typical fall trolling patterns holding true. Despite the lack of moon and wind all four times out, an average of 2-3 fish per hour was the norm three of the four nights, with the slowest night only producing 7 walleye. The fish are fat and healthy and all size fish were showing up. 3 tagged fish, 16 slot fish, half a dozen 16-17″ fish, and many big gals up to 27″ were all present. The water temps were 51-53 degrees both weekends with the mild weather not dropping the temps much from week to week. 1.6-1-8mph were goods speeds with Rapala Husky Jerks #12 and XRaps taking most fish and SSR #7s a close second. Colors were all over the board but Clown and Jolly Roger Tackle Sour Apple were top producers, with Jolly Roger Tackle PurpleHaze a close second. Shallow Rocks held most fish. The night I got only 7 was in Rock/Weed transitions. All four nights out I never saw another boat…sad, but more fish for me! Get out there while you still can, get on some fish and grind them out!
