Our green beans are starting to peter out (mainly abused by the kids tromping around in them)

What should we plant and when for a fall crop? The boys love broccoli, is it too late or too soon to plant that?

Looking it up says to plant it from late summer to early fall with an 85-120 mature date…. already knocking well on that door lol

Not dead set on broccoli, open to suggestions waytogo

Beets will work well. I just planted beets for fall greens. In September plant leaf lettuce again.

I planted my broccoli with my other veggies mid-May. Is broccoli normally planted later in the season? I just harvested some end of July, so that was about 10 weeks or so from planting. I’m not sure which kind I planted.

Usually we don’t plant anything mid or late season besides another row of leaf lettuce.

It all depends on where you live. In my area there are not many things that can be planted this late in the season. Radish, spinach, and turnips which I am not a fan of. Here is a calculator for fall harvest. https://www.johnnyseeds.com/growers-library/calculator-planting-dates-fall-harvest-crops.html Just enter in you frost date for your area and it will tell you what you can plant. You can use this to find your frost date. https://www.almanac.com/gardening/frostdates

Broccoli after the primary head has been cut will sprout side shoots that will head out and make for a slightly later harvest.

Leaf lettuce and beets will grow well now. Radishes are a maybe…if they get to a point where the bulbs will begin to fill out and a hot spell rolls in they’ll bolt and get real woody. Spinach is a great second crop. Anything that does well as a second or late crop will do well but will need to be kept damp either from rain or by watering often.

I usually plant fall crop radishes on or before labor day and normally have a bumper crop. German Giants and French Breakfast are my favorites.
