The postponement of the Big10 fall sports season opened up a big chunk of time for me in the fall. What would be your vote when planning a destination for the fall walleye bite? Looking anywhere in the Dakotas, MN, or WI.

Just got back from Devils last week and that was a meat run if I’ve ever seen one. Seemed like we could limit on 13-14 inchers on about every spot we tried. Can take 10 fish home in your possession too. ML obviously no eaters but a ton of fish. Leech somewhere in the middle where my group caught a few big ones each day and then would hunt to find a few eaters each night.
My plan for the fall is a walleye adventure of something I’ve never done before. Whether that’s exploring some of the lakes out in SD for the first time or a new EP in the BWCA, I don’t know yet!
August 12, 2020 at 6:48 am #1964347Personally the small mouth and walleye bite on mille lacs is amazing in the fall. Its so fun and you never have to go deeper then 12 to 15 ft Rock piles and have all day action. But I like going up to crane at that time or rainy just for the sights. We doing a September trip, 1 week on vermillion and 1 week on crane. We will do lots of fishing but the scenery is amazing and the lady friend and kids have more to do then just sit in the boat

Last year was a tough year on the lake for the first 2 days, the 2nd days we trailered the boat and went down river and did great so we have options

Mille lacs also has a great fall fishing.
I’ve wanted to get to Leech Lake in the fall for years.
Red lake is always a solid option for numbers of fish too.
You really can’t go wrong that time of year. Any of the big/popular bodies of water should have a good bite going once the water temps start dropping.brentbulletsPosts: 318August 12, 2020 at 8:10 am #1964373Define fall more precisely.
I will be on Leech last weekend of September for a week.

Highly recommend getting the Woods/Rainy chip if you have Humminbird. Lots or rocks out there.
Erik SwensonPosts: 425August 12, 2020 at 12:33 pm #1964458Thank you for the tip Bigstorm. I’ve been watching the threads on the area and recall you may have recommended to someone there too. Which version do you have? Should I be mindful of that if I have G2 Helix’s? There’s been some change in basemapping on the G3’s anyway right?
August 12, 2020 at 1:30 pm #1964484I have the Lakemaster Woods/Rainy chip V4 for my HB597hd, has the lake in 1ft contours and allows for highlighting depth ranges and shallow water. I have a G2 Helix7 in the boat as well without a chip, the basemap on that is worthless in my opinion

one of my favorite trips that we take is one to LOTW/rainy river in the fall. Park the boat dump a frozen shiner over the boat and just jig until a fish anywhere from 12″ to 30″ hits your bait. some of the laziest and funnest fishing we do all year.
Erik SwensonPosts: 425August 12, 2020 at 2:58 pm #1964529Sounds good! Just ordered one up. I will say that I have been impressed with my existing lakemaster MN chips for accuracy up on Crane/Sand Point and Namakan. U.S. portions, of course. Still have to watch what you’re doing regardless. Will have LOW now which I need to get my behind up to, as well…
