Yes I agree, boated that 25 miles of water Sunday.
Some nice reds and oranges.
Getting started
The drive up to Namakan was absolutly beautiful going through the Iron Range this last weekend.
This is a pic I took last night at home. I love the colors the Maples put out!
I was up the north shore on Tuesday and the colors are pretty much at peak in the spots I was at. One day of stiff winds and the leaves will be off in most of those areas. It seems other parts of the state are much further behind, but the north shore is at peak right now. The crowds up there, even on a Tuesday, were insane, and I was 4 miles in.
If you are planning to go up the north shore for fall colors, I’d get there by this weekend at the latest. I’d guess Sunday’s wind forecast will knock down most of that color.
The colors exploded the last two days in Phillip’s area. About 7 days after the killing frost. Soft maples are really really orange and red this year!
Can I get a recommendation on a boat access south of Hudson somewhere. My plan is to take wifes parents on a fall color boat ride and I am not familiar with where to start out? Im thinking of going 20-30 miles from where we put in and back.

Should be able to launch in Afton go S to Prescott and back.
I was hiking this morning by Pool 2 and was was hoping to get a good sunrise photo, but it was a bit cloudy. Lots of birds and squirrels out and about though so that made for a relaxing hike. Lots of green yet but I saw some colors. 😊 Felt good just to be out in the woods.
Those are some real nice pics Sharon.! Myself an a lady friend made a long leafing trip yesterday in the Hager City Ellsworth durand Urne Alma Wi areas an Wabasha Kellogg Mn area. There was a lot of awesome colors in Ellsworth Durand An Urne areas. Then the farther south we went the colors dropped off pretty fast. . . rrr
Here’s a satellite image around Superior. Really cool how you can see the changes. This one is from September 22, the last clear day. Hopefully there is a clear enough day soon to see what the rest of MN has done.
Leech lake last week was some of the best colors I’ve ever seen. The maples were nearly pure orange in the Federal Dam campground where we stayed with a boat and tents. According to Great Lake’s map, we hit it almost right on the bottom.
The colors have been great this year. If I remember right too much water mutes how bright they get in the fall. It was something I remember them mentioning on the news last year routinely (wettest year on record beating 2018, which beat 2016 for the title). We haven’t had a lot of normal years for precipitation lately but man oh man, whatever we got this year and when we got it must be ideal since I don’t remember them ever being this good before.
