What ever happened to the fake weeds that were all the rage a few years ago? Just a fad?
Don’t remember the name but there was a lot of talk about them for a while.
Yes, cause they do not work for most people and environments. I tried them on 3 different lakes and did not help bring fish in whatsoever. I heard some guys had decent success in shallow 8′ of water, but not I.
They weren’t fake weeds they were called reel weeds!!! I have about 5 strings of em……wanna buy them?
I bought in on that crap. I never found an application that worked for me
Pain to set them up. Pain to take them down. Pain when fish get’s tangled in them.
That’s how it’s been working.
Is it enough to really bring fish in? No clue, but it must be situational.
we have a few basin pits that have absolutely 0 structure in them. fish just move around and around and never really seem to stay put.
So instead of buying them, my mom who is super crafty had a ton of the same material just lying around so i made some. I set them up and went messing around and within an hour came back. And there were fish there but they quickly left as if they didn’t care about the weeds. So We let them just sit and went back the next day. We feel they worked somewhat. But still not worth the time and effort it required.
The next year someone was selling a 5 pack of the real reel weeds for next to nothing so i bought them thinking maybe i needed the real product.
Same difference. At that point I sold them for what i bought them for.
We dumped 3 piles of about 5-6 xmas trees in the lake (private) and now fish stack on top of those piles easily every year.
Many things to take into account using Reel Weeds.
I used them on fairly early ice in a bay on the river. Mike Smith (from Rochester’s Hooked on Fishing bait shop) and Dean Marshal didn’t have them. Fishing for panfish. Mike kept moving around, Dean stayed in one hole. I caught more fish then those two.
Dean came over to my hole and started catching perch and sunnies just like I had been.
They both believed in them so much they ordered them into inventory.
Late season ice on Winni. Panfish were on a tear. Dropped the weeds down and they stopped biting. Pulled them up, when to another hole and after waiting some time, couldn’t get a bite. Dropped the camera down to see where all the fish went and found pike hanging a short distance away from the weeds.
Walleye fishermen and hole hoppers they won’t help much if any.
I did hear (no personal experience) they held crappies on Red around a little longer on their nomadic journey.
Bought into them about 15 years ago to put on my camera cord…never did a dang thing but get line tangled in it when a pike bit the panfish jig…

So. What are they? I have never heard of them.-J.
They are composite material (Fake) weeds with weights on them to get them to the bottom connected to a line.
I think they only worked when used with a Color-C-Lector and no one was ever dumb enough to fall for both.
