Back in the day I used to use a piece of red or orange string to bait a hook when I ran out of live bait. Just wondering if anyone else has used that technique.

Heard this story from some ice fishing buddies that some old dude got so cold his finger broke right off, he put it on a hook and caught a 32 inch Walleye. It’s probably not true, but you never know. Ice fishermen do whatever it takes to get those biggins. Especially if it’s stupid, because then it makes a damn good story!

Flies, hair jigs, plastics and some of the scented baits are all fake baits. The finger story I haven’t heard yet but I’ve heard a bunch of stories where using things from chewing gum to the hot dogs and bologna have caught fish. I’m betting that anyone crazy enough to try broccoli probably will not catch fish but then maybe its worth a go….

Used fluorescent orange yarn for grayling in Canada.
