    Greetings,
This is for you guys who are running the F150……

Have you had any issues with the 35 amp service Keeping your main battery good and charged running 1 or 2 large Fish finder units ?

In the past I ran a High cranking/High reserved combination battery and did well but I only ran an old eagle flasher unit.

I know the F200 gas like 50 amps but would like to stay with the 150.

    Thanks guys!!

Any decent marine starter battery will run 2 graphs all day long without ever starting the outboard. And still have plenty of amps to start it at the end of the day. Graphs burn very little juice.

I want this to be true but I’ve been reading some different opinions. Not sure what to believe.

One theme seems to be true, get a dual purpose marine battery as opposed to a cranking only.

The other that isn’t so clear is about the draw from different devices, mostly livewells and bigger screen electronics. I’m told HBird’s Onyx is a true powersuck but don’t know what that means in actual numbers. Bigger the screen = more power needed but is the extra draw so little it’s irrelevant?

    Confused crazy

In my Skeeter I have ran a live well, sometimes both, and 2 HB graphs for 8-10 hours on an electric only lake and never had an issue. That battery still charged up faster than the trolling motor batteries did and I have never ran them less than half a charge. It will be fine as long as its a marine cranking or dual purpose battery, 29 or 31 class.

Been running a 31 series deep cycle in my 1825 for 4 seasons now. Runs pumps, graphs, livewells, radio, lights all day just fine. Even has enough juice to start the F150 when its time to head in! Starts fine on cold days, and never had an issue when jumping from waypoint to waypoint all day. Not once has it not started the engine. Caveat…I do have it wired to the MK-330 onboard charger.

I have a Skeeter 1880 with a F150. When I got it it did not have an on board charger for the starting battery. The first time I went to LOTWs for a week, even though we were running 20 miles out and back every day, by the end of the week the battery was low enough that my two HDS units would shut off when I started the big motor. I put an on board charger on the starting battery and have had no problems since.

Go with the deep cycle. A starting battery will work just fine under normal conditions, but many of the deep cycles are rated for starting as well.

I will be switching to a deep cycle for next season.

asch, you have just gave me the reaffirmation that what I’ve done for 20 some years now has some grounding.

I know the system that I have is not the easy money way out, but I’m not having frustration in the boat when I’m actually hitting the water to get a chance to wet the lines!

That is when I want my toys to preform, with no issues!!

if you’re running multiple Onix units, they will obviously tax the battery alot more than Helix series would…it all depends on what/when you’re running off the batteries…but if you’re batteries are good, you really shouldn’t ever see issues…

    Well…I’ve got a 27-series Interstate cranking battery that’s less than 2 years old. I’m running a Helix 5, 999, 1199, and 2 direct-wired GoPro cameras off it.

It’s always started the big motor without fail; the issue is that within only a couple hours it’s down enough that when starting the big motor the 999 on the bow will shut down (farthest away so power loss over the length of the cord). Notably, when I’m trolling and running the 15hp kicker, there’s zero issue when it’s time to start the main, so it’s clearly related to draw on the battery by those items.

As a result, I’m planning to upgrade to an Optima blue top 31-series this off-season.

x2, those real world examples from reputable sources are what is sorely missing across the internet. I’ve got a 24 series cranking and now have a better idea what to replace it with when the time comes.
