I bought a St. Criox Legend Tournamnet Light bouncer rod. I’m trying to pair it up with a reel, but I’m lost on what I should put on it for a reel. Don’t really have anyplace around me that has reels I can play with and match it up with. Looking for a low profile reel with a flippin switch. Any ideas on reels and the size of reel. Always been a fan of shimano, but open to anything.

I’m a Shimano fan as well, but have Diawa Accurists on my bouncer rods.

Abu Garcia 5500 is a great reel for this application,

I use the Quantum Accurist PT’s for light bouncing & rigging under 1oz. Over 1oz I use my lineconter reels. I have some older Abu’s with a flipping switch that work well also. It seems you wont find many options any longer for reels with the flipping switch.Diawa Megaforce caught my eye.Push the thumbar to let line out & hit twitchin bar to engauge or retrieve 6″ every push of the twitchin bar.The reveiws havent been good enough for me to switch & I currently have enough good working reels for this application at this point.

I thought Abu only made the 5500 in a line counter models now? For Abu models with a flipping switch, I think the only models are in the ‘Max’ line. Pro Max, Silver, Max, Black Max.

I have used the black max, but for under $50 I don’t expect much out of it Although they have lasted me years. I have been an Abu man for many years and have little experience with other brands.

Choosing one with a flipping switch is a wise choice. Also something to consider is a left hand version. That way when your trying to maintain bottom contact you do it all with one hand. You dont have to switch hands to engage spool.

Quantum Accurist with the “flippin switch.” It’s nice to be able to just press the thumb button to release line instead of engaging and re-engaging the reel. I use these with up to 2oz bouncers.

Left handed model also nice if your right handed, dont have to switch hands to reel fish in.

You may be correct. The 5500 is an older reel that gave many of us years & years of quality service. I still have the first one I ever bought and it still works like a champ.
