Hey guys I am new to tieing live bait rigs and have some questions. On lindy rigs how long should they be? How many beads between the float and hook? What size beads? Any beads after the float like on a spinner?

On a slow death rig how long should they be? Do you add any beads or not? Can the hook be tied with a regular knot or does it have to have a certain knot to get it to spin? Thanks for the help guys

The answer probably varies based on the lake or river the person is fishing. For me, it’s the length that catches the fish.

Generally if I’m tieing up stuff pre-season, I’ll tie it long and shorten as needed on the water.

Depending on where you are from I think I read in a past post here that in MN you have to have at least one bead in the rig with multiple hooks to make it a legal “lure”.

What line and pound test is good for lindy rigs? I have some 8lb suffix I need to use up. Would that work?

I use Stren 8 lb mono when tying my rigs. I’m sure others may have different opinions on line but that is what I use and it has worked great for me. I snapped off one fish last year and it was a 35+ northern that i didn’t really care to handle anyway. I would give it a whirl. I have had my best luck using faceted beads (almost like a diamond cut). I haven’t been able to find them anywhere but eBay. Chartreuse, purple and blue have been my best producers.

Do you guys use any beads above the floats or just above the hook?

I’ve just been putting beads up above. Another thing you may want to consider is the quick change clevis. It makes the rig a lot more flexible. You can change blade size and color quickly.

I fish mostly clear waters (Mille Lace, Winnie) and use 6lb. Vanish.

85lund I just looked and see that bass pro also has faceted beads. However they only have them in red and clear. And also only three sizes
