got out today with my buddy “tom”. we hit the river right at sunrise in search of some highwater eyes… wow.. that high water and fast current can be quite frustrating
we fished spot, after spot, after spot, and on and on. with not so much as a nibble. then it was game on.. we found a pattern that work and grinded out limits for the both of us.
walleye/ sauger combo.. biggest walleye going 21 inches.
hair jigs with meat was the ticket.
we both couldnt ask for a better day.
o-yea we also had a problem with snakes crawling out of the water into the boat. two got in and one quite larger one.. he and i had it out… i won…. not to fond of snakes

Snakes, Man they were a pain in the for my boat the last 3 day. Not a big fan of them either. We only had one sneek in on us. Had to keep your head on a swivel or they would make there way right in.

What kind of snake is this? Something you can just grab and toss? (not knowing anything about ID’ing snakes I doubt I’d like dealing with them.

Just trying to draw a mental pic of your wife sitting on top of your head after one of those garter snakes crawls in the boat.

Nice job on the fish. I think I briefly saw you at Everts in the morning.

Everywhere I went the last 2 days there were snakes swimming around. Never had any sneak in on us though.

On the “plus side” you wouldn’t have to worry about mice in the boat Garter snakes aren’t too bad except for the fact that they never know when to go home jerr

if you had been there you would have seen me standing on top of the swivel chair sqirming and yelling like a little girl while tom is snapping photos of me . we had one that looked like a rattle snake, which i know it couldnt have been, but no way was he getting in.

lots of brown ice bergs floating around, it just amazed me with some of these guys going mach 5 ..

and yea jesse i do recall seeing you in the a.m.. ran into a few from i.d.o on the water.. chatted with rudger.. and mark for a while.

Nice fish. Fishing with snakes? Not so good.

Years ago I had a good crappie spot on the St Croix. Had a snake come off a cliff and land in the boat right next to me. That was a heck of a scramble but luckily the snake went over the side of the boat before I did. To this day I still have problems fishing next to that cliff.

Glad to here jigs are working down that way. We could not buy a fish on one on Pool 2 yesterday. It was all cranks for us. Sure hope that changes soon.

Good job on getting a bite working. I was on pool 9 yesterday and had 1 large snake 4 ft long wrapped it’s self around my power lift on the motor and spent a half hour trying to get it out. Then when we left my buddy pulled up the trolling motor and we had one slip in the boat. I HATE SNAKES!

Not poisonous. Just Common Gardner Snakes.

I assume they went to the trees when the flooding started. After a couple weeks in the trees without food they took advantage of this hot weather and went hunting for food and land. We were just there to see it.

That of course is a theory.

The snake in our boat was a northern brown snake. Known to kill big and bald headed guys in red rangers. I was scared!

I’m glad to see the pic is blurred, there’s just some things I don’t want to see on a family web-site.
