Heard the bad news about the Mississippi and decided to ignore it. Got out to Pool 14 this morning with my partners in crime- my older brother Matt and our friend Nick. We didn’t notice too many boats- that was fine by us. The water was high, stained, and chuck full of weeds. No big deal, right? Well, I guess not. We had an OUTSTANDING day and it was in spite of the set backs. The big fish of the day was my brother Matt’s 26″ pig that was happily released. We ended up keeping four nice 19 inch walleyes, two tasty 15 inch saugers and one nice little 5 pound flathead that wanted to play. The bite was a straight jig pitching bite- find the seems and you’ll find the fish. 1/4 oz and 5/16th were the size of choice. The best color we had were purple based- purple sparkle, fire n’ ice, purple pink tail, etc. All were caught on ringworms. I don’t know how long the river will be fishable, but I wouldn’t wait too long, the forecast for pool 14 doesn’t look favorable for next weekend, but if you have a day off during the week, head out, bring some jigs and a nice rod to pitch with, and have a good time! In my post, the walleye I’m holding was caught the other night, not on pool 14, but I didn’t want him to be left out of the lime light. Tight lines everybody, and I’ll see you all October 16th on Pool 4!
P.S. I had to take a picture of the Lock and Dam 13 sign, with old glory waving in the breeze. God Bless America!
