Hot Week on Lake Vermillion

I would rank this as one of top two or three years of summer fishing trips we have had up on Lake Vermillion.

We caught numerous fish every day out on the water.

The first half of the week we concentrated on walleyes and were richly rewarded. One of the things that stood out was the numbers of walleyes between 13″and 17″ caught.

We had walleye dinners three nights and we were also able to bring our fair share of fillets home for a few future dinners.

Typically the last several years catching slot fish had proved to be a difficult task, as most of the walleyes on the west end of the lake were over the 17″ minnimum slot.

The future for catching more slots looks good, and it seems the chance for trophys can only get better as many of the fish that we released were in the 19″ to 25″ range.

If you can believe this we actually got bored catching walleyes, so we decided to spend the last two days of our trip casting over the top of the weed edges, this produce a variety of fish to the boat, one muskie, multiple northerns, large mouth bass,a couple smallies, even a couple walleyes.

For those of you who are going up for the muskie action this week. We did see a couple nice muskies while casting, and the reports from the muskie guys staying at the resort was there were alot of follows, and one that was landed went 55″.

The hot stick for the week was my FD Laura, she had quite a week of fishing, one that she will remeber forever, along for the ride was my FW,my FM and myself.

Laura proved not only to have a knack for catching fish, she also proved herself to be a good deck hand as she was able to help retie broken lines, fillet most of our fish, and even cook the fillets to a perfect golden brown.

Her Mother, Grandmother, and Father were most impressed.

All and all one of those trips that will forever be installed in the memorie banks of us all.

It was a terrific family vacation
