Still learning how to fish wing dams and bought several of the dork rigs this spring during the fishing seminars from River Rat Randy. Just a couple of questions hopefully someone will answer:
1) When should you use them
A: When the fish want bait but aren’t aggressive enough to hit jigs and bait.
2) How are they used
A: A dork rig is great for slowly washing into the face of dams or hovering bait in a small spot behind the boat on the face of a dam. Long story short… any time you need to work a bait slowly but can’t get away with weight at the bait itself.
3) What is the best bait to use on them
A: Crawlers and leeches are most common on dams. Willowcats can be dynamite… if you can find and afford them.
4) Any other tips or tricks
A: Play with leader lengths A LOT depending on the amount of flow. I tend towards less leader length in higher flow, more leader length in lower flow.
