The intentions of this trip were to get my son his all-on-your-own walleye. Woke him up at 4:00AM Sunday morning, to my surprise he jumped out of bed got dressed and was ready to go in about 5 minutes,(funny how it takes a half hour to get ready for school.)
We pulled into hunters and right in front of us is the snapper in the picture dumping her eggs, never seen this before so it was a pretty cool way to start the trip.
Got on the water by 6:20 and headed out to the reefs to see if there were any takers left from Saturday night. After a couple of hours of jumping around it was pretty obvious the fish that were there weren’t to interested in what we had to offer so of to the mud to see if that would pan out better.
Five minutes on the mud and fish on. It was kind of funny because as soon as Sam saw the size of the fish(26.5″) he kind of was in awe and I had to tell him 3 times to get the net in water. After a few high fives and we got her back in the water.
The next hour or so we marked quite a few fish but no takers so we decided to speed things up a bit and put on spinners with bottom bouncers. I put the rods in the rod holders because I didn’t want Sam to accidently drop one of my rods in the lake and explained to him what a bite should look like on the rod. About 15 minutes into pulling the spinners Sam says,”hey dad I think I’ve got a bite”, I look over and his rod is doubled over and bouncing like crazy, 20″ eye in the boat.
We ended up with a couple of eaters and the two throw backs for the morning.
Had a great time fishing with ya Sam.
