Me and my buddy are headed up to Adrians saturday morning to chase some of those monster eyes I’ve been seeing so many pictures of. The only problem is that neither one of us has ever been to the Rainy and have no idea where to start. Also any tip and tricks or locations would also be greatly appreciated. Are there certian spots that are better or is the whole river pretty good? Thanks for your input.

GREAT TIME TO BE GOIN TO RAINY. Ive never fished out of adrians, but if you couldl make it upstream to birchdale or frontier you will be on some nice fish. 5″k grubs with a minnow is the ticket. 1/2oz jig is also good so u can vertical jig. PM for more info

Do you have a canadian license or a Remote Border pass? If not then you limited to fishing the “imaginary” border down the middle of the river….Don’t mess with that border either, immagration officers are some times very tough….fines upwards of 1000 bucks, so what were your drifting. Stay on the MN side….

Fishing is great. If your a first timer I suggest either Vidas landing or birchdale. Bring a variety of jig sizes and plastics. they are catching a lot of fish on meat (minnows) so if you want to catch a bunch then I would reccomend meat…..if you want to target bigger fish then plastics of any sort is a good choice. Fish depressions in the river..walleyes hide or rest in these depressions as they make there way up to spawn. Keep your eyes on other boats, try to see what they are using if they are catching fish. mimic the presentation….
I personally would focus on the river vs the gap area of lake of the woods…

    good luck.

Thanks for the info guys. Well turns out that my partner can not make it this weekend any more though. Really sucks I was really looking forward to this trip. I guess the sturgeon excursion will be my first trip up there. Anyone have an open seat for the Rainy saturday or sunday or both? I would be willing to split bait and gas with ya.
