I believe that building confidence for the younger fishermen in 2010 is easier said than done. I started fishing walleyes back in the ’70’s. Back then we didn’t have the overwhelming assortment of lures and fishing equipment to confuse us. What tips can we give the younger walleye fishermen to help them sort it all out?

Learn structure fishing first, presentations second. Hard to catch fish that aren’t there.

Fancy lures don’t catch fish—fishermen do. More walleye have been caught on a jig minnow combination that anything else. Learn where the walleye are and keep the bait in from of their faces and good things will happen!

X2 Dan also learn good boat control once you’ve got these two things down and you can catch anything

I think the best thing my dad ever did for me as a fishing teacher was to give me the bow and let me run the boat 15years ago. Now that I think about it every fish I’ve ever caught my dad can take a little credit for

x2 and I have caught more fish(walleyes)using the most basic presentations (split shot & hook/minnow or crawler, jig /minnow,jig/crawler) than any other methods.

Don’t get stuck on one presentation or 2, practice others and in time you will refine them and become more successful during your outings.
