Just a question as to how many would think the prespawn bite is nearly a thing of the past now that being so early in april but since the water temps went up so quick. Are people still catching females with eggs? I dont think its good when the sheephead start moving into the walleye haunts. Just looking for opinions thanx.

Our fish are maybe going to be a couple days earlier than normal, but I’m down in Pool 14. Have 26 girls in the tanks already at the hatchery from 5-13lbs, although a couple are softing up, so it could be early next week. Will be collecting walleyes Mon-Wed with the assumption that the fish will begin flowing around Thursday (8th).

Looks like you may have a week yet. The pre spawn fish we were lucky enough to nab on pool 4 Wed. and Thurs. were definetly soft bellied. One more so than the other two. Ask Dean, he’ll probably mention that April 10th date again

According to my observations 94.35% are being released… I hope that helps answer your question. Good fishing…

I thought it was closer to 95.36% , but we may have been on the river on different days

I caught a 29 incher and witnessed a second 29 incher caught on pool 4 today and both were post spawn females, but yet they were legitimately caught so they are feeding. Both released.
