Will be fishing pool 3 and lake St Croix in May. Never fished it before. Any suggestions on what to use and where to fish would be appreciated. Will be traveling through the area March 20 – 21st on way to steelheading on the Root River, plan to pick up lake maps on my way.

typically by the middle of may, the crankbait bite starts to pick up.

Last May the vertical jig bite was hot at Prescott. Mostly small sauger but the occasional big fish. Most days my boat had 50-60 fish days between 2 guys. The St Croix however was not good to me.

While many fish jigs in the deeper water of the St Croix, the old timers fish the shallower water when the waters high as it is in a typical May.

Shallower as in 1 foot of water during the day to stay out of the current.

    Good luck!

So bK, fish it like any other river I take it???
High water think shallow and let the water clarity take it from there for further depth adjustments. Croix usually is clearer than the Mississippi.

Remember your talking to a cat guy that fathered Jami.

I’m just going by what an old river rat showed me on the St Croix a number of years ago…and he would be po’ed if he found out I was talking on line about it.

We are talking about the James River…right?
