What line do you guys like to use for your leader when lindy rigging?
I use trilene XT 6lbs. I tried vanish years ago, and had nothing but problems with it. It seemed that after about ten minutes if I didn’t tie a new leader, and I got a decent fish to bite the leader would snap. Any abrasion or scuff in the line, and it was junk. I know a lot of guys say they use it, but I never will again.

You must have bought a bad batch or something. I would express your experiance in a letter and returned it they would have refunded your money or sent you a new spool. They make several quality products and want all customers to be happy with their purchase.

When Vanish hit the market, it had terrible knot strength. Many people including myself had issues with the knots failing. Fisherman were complaining of this and Berkley tweaked the recepie to overcome this problem.
I use six pound Vanish for leader material. This is very tuff stuff and about as invisable to fish as you can get which is why I use it on Mille Lacs where I do most of my rigging.

Thats good to know. I used Vanish and it was horrible. Like others have said, I had so many snapped lines it was ridiculous. After about 1-2 weeks I threw it away. I may have to try it again. I now use 6-8# Seaguar Fluorocarbon.
Since fluorocarbon is invisible, why not move up to a heavier line? I run into large catfish (not BK large – but up to 10 lbs.) where I fish for smallies. After losing several jigs, I started using 12 lb. Transition Vanish as a leader and have enjoyed landing most of them since then. The short leader keeps my Fireline main line from getting frayed on the rocks and wood too. I also use Vanish as leader material for the spinner rigs and Lindy rigs I make for walleye fishing.

It’s my belief that going to a heavier line that is stiffer, it would not allow the live bait to move as freely or naturally. With that said I do most of my rigging on Mille Lacs. These fish have seen all of the tricks immaginable so I do everything possible to keep my bait looking as natural as possible. Dropping down to a four pound test is not uncommon for leader material. I also use 4 pound Vanish all winter for my ‘eye fishing.
On a side note; the fish in my avitar was caught on 2 pound Vanish while fishing for perch.

I also had the same experience with Vanish when it first came out. I had to tie on a jig head 3 or 4 times because my knot kept breaking. I had 2 poles spooled up and switched em back to Stren. I may have to give it another chance this summer.
I use 6 pound P-line fluorcarbon but have some 4 pound on hand if I think may help with being more stealthy. Have used Trilene XL without any problems to note, just have more confidence with the fluoro.
4 river fishing MAXIMA CHAMELEON made in GERMANY. The Most ABRASION PROOF line on the market, aslo the strongest!!
I use the 6# and 8# Vanish but I also like the P-line. The Vanish is what I use the most and it has been good for me. I have not had the same issues that other have described here.
I use Suffix monofilament 4 or 6 pound test. Strong line and resists abrasion very well. I was a Trilene man for years, I like Suffix better now. Turk
