Thanks to Dean and his wealth of knowledge we managed to put 30+ saugers in the boat and we also were able to squeek out a new PB for my buddy which was a #3 pounder. I believe his exact words were, “Holy S**t that is the biggest sauger I have ever seen”. We rounded out the day pulling 3-ways in about 15-17 FOW and returning home with 7 nice eating sized fish. My buddy has been down th P4 several times with no success and refused to believe that “Cookies” were the reason that he was not catching anything. He now believes me and will from now on be bringing cookies. Thanks again Dean and we look forward to seeing you next saturday.

Soon as deer season is over I’m going to make that 5 1/2 hour trip up to see Dean for the first time. Hope we have as good of luck has you guys did, but it’s going to be cold and I’ve never fished that late.
    Way to go

You should be fine….all you need to do is be prepared to be versatile.

I fished with Mark Steffes for a short day last Sunday. After a great bite on Saturday we had high hopes but experienced an overall slow bite. We pitched for the first couple hours of daylight (2 short fish), then pulled 3-ways and cranks for 2-3 hours (2 legals, many shorts), then threw the tackle box at them for an hour before finally settling on a very slow 3-way/minnow presentation that provided us with steady action including a much better keeper/short fish ratio that we had experienced earlier.

I told Mark that I felt neurotic, changing presentations every 10 moinutes during the course of just an hour, to try to find the magic recipe. Then, Mark simply said, “that’s river fishing for ya!” True enough!
