My son, Marshall, our buddy Pat, (Gutone4me) and I made atrip this morning to chase after some tasty saugher for the supper table and we were certainly not dissappointed!!

Not only did we catch lots of nice saugers on Dean’s blade baits, but Pat actually caught some of the fish we kept to eat!! (This is almost unheard of!)

Below are some of the walleyes that were mixed in with the saugers, and one of the better saugers we caught and released, plus Pat with two of the “eaters”>

Another highlight of the day came when Marshall pulled in a stray line with a jig still attached, and on the jig was one of his favorite river dwellers, a nice healthy mudpuppy!

We fished around a great bunch of guys, made some new friends, and had agreat time in the wonderful weather!

    We will return!

    Curt

I finally figured out why Gut was the only one who didn’t loose a blade bait today. We never told him that his blade had to touch the bottom sometimes. He must have been fishing for suspended fish all day.

Did the mudpuppy have a flat 3/4oz orange jig head in it? If so i caught that one on saturday, but I caught two mudpuppys on one blade.

It had a yellow/orange jig in about 1/2oz size. I wasn’t in too big of a hurry to grab him though.

Congrats guys, sounds like you had a phenomenal day on the water. Way to put on a clinic down there! Those B-fish’n blades are a go-to bait down there all year, and Dean always knows which 2-3 colors will be hot for you every time you head out. Good to hear you took Pat with too. Love the last picture; he’s afraid the sauger smell will ruin all that doe-pee he bathes in for deer season.

We tried to get people in on the blade bite. We showed some of the guys what we were using and how we were doing it. I even threw a blade bait to a guy who was out with his kids. I gave them 3 more for cost on the water so they could get in on it too.

I forget sometimes that there’s much more to working a blade than just bouncing it. I take for granted that I was brought up fishing them and that they are a new technique for a lot of people. You folks have an amazing fishery up there, and have so many ways to catch those fish it blows my mind.

P.S Dean, we bought 12 more blades to replace the 7 we lost (4 lost and three given to the other boat). That’s a good deal right?

    Sounds right to me….
But seriously, you are right, there is a bit more to it than just putting one on your rod.And btw, losing only 4 is getting off pretty easy.

    Remember Pat,

    He said better, not good

We’ll get you some more practice tommorow. You’re due for a mud puppy or a nice big redhorse. You can’t get really good at working blades untill you master the art of catching slimers.
