RyanK and I got out the other night during the storms – which actually missed us for the most part.
We launched at roughly 9pm with the intention of pulling raps for walleye and then stopping and fishing cats from shore. As you can see from the pictures we have done some modifying to our canoe and it seems to be working great for us! I created a custom motor mount on the back that also holds the fish finder and trolling rod holder.
We launched around 9pm and within 5 minutes I had a 23″ walleye on the troll. High fives around the canoe and back to trolling. 5 minutes later, RyanK laid into a fish that just stayed down and would not surface – we were both thinking huge walleye – until it got up to the boat, 2lb Sheep Head – GRATZ RYAN!! 5 mintues after that 18″ walleye.
After this strong bite and getting pushed off the water a couple times because of lighting we decided to set up camp and start to look for a cat bite. We found a great shore spot with a nice drop into about 13-18 FOW. We set our rods up and waited – soon enough RyanK was walking back to canoe to grab a new soda and his rod tips completely over the Y stick and straight into the river!! I made a B line for his rod and super manned myself into the river, grabing the rod, and quickly pulling up to set the hook. As the hook was set I started to reel in a pretty nice fish – BOOM my rod bends in half, DOUBLE – with Jake still halfway in the river fighting a fish.
I have not had a night like this in a long time – what a great bite and an even more exciting night.
