Hey guys I need some help on shad. I am looking for a plastic that I can pitch on a h20 precision jig that will resemble a shad. I don’t wanna cast crankbaits because I don’t have very many and I will be pitching into rocks so I will proablly have a fair amount of snags. Any suggestions on what plastics to buy? Does gulp make anything that would work? Thanks for the help guys.

I do belive that gulp goes infact make a shad.
Also it will probly hepl if you can use as light of jig aas possible to still cast, it should have less of a tendency to fall into as many cracks if you learn to “float” it on the retrive and dont drag it.

The very best shad baits that I have found come frome BIG BITE BAITS. They are thinner and have a triangular tail. They shimmie in any weather no matter how cold the water is. Some of the other shads you can buy are either too stiff or their tail isn’t big enough. You can go to a swimmbait like the BIG HAMMER. They work well. The reason I like the BIG BITES is because on lighter jigs, say 1/4 or 1/8 oz. the whole body wobbels back and forth. Give them a try you’ll likey muchie!

Where I’m from you can’t buy paddle tails and they wouldn’t get here by this weekend.

In a pinch I’ve had fair success with the Walleye Asassins. I believe most Wally Worlds carry them, and they have some good river colors. Gulp does make shad baits as well, but I’ve never fished them. I’d get a couple different sizes and colors and see what happens. Another option to remember is live bait. You’ll get more “undesireable” fish on crawlers, but half a crawler or a good sized leech can be deadly right now. Gulp also makes a leech bait, and I’ve had some good success with those pitching to wings as well.

If you don’t have any draggin’ jigs I would strongly recommend you order some before your next outing. They are the best jigs I’ve ever used for wingdams by a landslide. I’ve been fishing them hard on wings, rockpiles, riprap and wood for the last 9 months and I’ve lost 4 to hangups. In that time I am confident I would have lost 15-20 standard or even H2O jigs in the same time and places.

I’m not fishing a river. I’m fishing a man made lake. Would the lEeches and half a crawler work even though the walleye are feeding on shad? The shad are spawning so the walleye are feeding heavy on them. Thanks for the help guys
