Crayfish for eyes’…

I’ve rigged them for Bass using a 3-way set-up. Impale the hook through the seam of the 3rd or 4th segment in the tail. Bring the hook towards the body section then exposing the hook in the seam between the body and first tail section.

It works well for Bass, I see no reason why it wouldn’t work for Walleyes.

Be careful though, some of those crawfish are illegal to transport.

When eyes are on a crayfish pattern in the rocks, I catch a slug of them using the front 1/3rd of a fat crawler on a 1/16-1/8 oz jig. It has the same color and profile as a small-medium crayfish, and if you scoot it along the bottom just right, it has a similar action too.

Plus, crawlers are easy to get, easy to store, don’t pinch you when you’re trying to rig them, and have no legal issues associated with them.

A certain lake in MN around beginning of August you can catch some dandy eyes throwing/pitching craw imitation cranks and plastics on some shallow rock humps. During this time 98% of the people are fishing for eyes out deep and you can absolutely them in about 5-8 fow sometimes all day long in the heat of August.

I guess I never thought about using real craws.

Hey Blue, why don’t you bring me up about 8-9 dozen Craws on August 1st. Thanks!
