Hey guys I am looking for some tips on dragging. I have a 12 volt power drive. What setting would you put it on? Does it work better with livebait or plastics? Any other tips would greatly be appreciated

Search the forums on IDO, right here…for a fantastic lesson on dragging by Jason Halfen. It’ll teach ya everything you need to know short of which body of water. Happy dragging…

It dose work on lakes and there is no way to tell you what setting to run the motor on. There are many variables that come into play. Size of boat, curent or no curent, wind just to name a few. The biggest thing with dragging is boat speed and ability to get the bait down to the fish. There was alot of great info on this site on the very subject. It will be a great help to you.

    you bet it does!
Draggin is no different than drifting.
It is all about a “controlled drift”.
    No different than trolling either.
What you are trying to mimic in the river, is food washing down river or even swimming up river.
no different than in a lake, with a leech or crawler swimming along.

It is all about giving the fish what they want to eat.
Some days, a walleye wants that chub, leech, crawler just danging in their face, tempting a bite. Other days, they won’t respond to that presentation and you have to “trigger” the bite by burning a crank by trolling past their nose at 3pmh.
And somedays it is somewhere in-between.

Give the fish what they want. And until you put the presentation in front of their face, you won’t know what they want. Be versitle!

Just always remember that the majority of the time, a river fish has to react to eat food. They stage in areas where food gets washed down stream. They have limited time to react to eat. A Mille Lacs walleye gets to root around the mud flats digging up may-flys and go on a smorgasborg.
Always remember that difference as a start point. Not so much as text book, but as a reference.

If you’re serious about draggin, order the DVD made by James and Jason…that thing is like sitting in a classroom and getting personalized instruction, plus getting entertained at the same time. You can buy it at Evert’s OR you can order it here online. WELL WORTH the $$$ and a drive to the resort if you have to. (it’s a five thumbs up DVD)
