For day fishing I like the Thill “pro series” weighted float. Even their standard Balsa floats are good.

As far as lighted slip bobbers, I havn’t found one that compares to the gamakatsu firetip…great lighted float.

I like the pro series from thill. These are the ones with the brass insert down the center. The line slips down through the bobber easily, so you don’t need as much weight.

I agree. That was a great improvement.

I’ve switched over to using these Stealth bobbers, also by Thill. Much of the body of the bobber lies under the surface, and there is only one place where the line contacts the bobber (below the surface), rather than running through the entire length of the bobber from top to bottom.

For stops, I’ve switched over to the small rubber stop/bead combo. The tiny piece of rubber is still very adjustable, and I think it’s easier on the main line than a knot.

    Jason,

I’ve given that style bobber a fair chance several times. Never again!! Way too many tangles and hang ups at the end of the float. The worst part is tangled or running correctly, the bobber looks the same at the end of a cast. Nothing more frustrating than reeling in to find a tangle and knowing your last 5-10 minutes was wasted!

That’s too bad, Jon…I guess I haven’t encountered any such issues during my year-or-so of use.

Not laughing at you, laughing with you…We ALL know what that’s like. And it’s funny when it happens to somebody else in the boat!

But,,how do the ruber bobber stops work? I like to use thin line all the time and I have to be very very careful to not damage my line with the knots..Just curious.

I like the Thill lighted bobbers for my channel cats. I wish the lights were less expensive but they work better than the others I’ve tried. That problem Jon had above I’ve experienced. I’ve even had a couple of big cats come up and eat that knot, bobber, bait an the whole ball of wax.

Interesting. There must be something fundamentally different in how we’re getting rigged up, or how we’re casting, or both.

I used the Thill Stealth bobbers very successfully yesterday….not a tangle to speak of!
