I was wondering what reel size you guys like for casting/piching jigs? For vertical jigging I’m using small reels like 1000 Shimanos or 6725 Presidents and they work fine. But I’m thinking maybe bigger reels would be better for casting/pitching? BTW, I’m mostly using 6-2 Crystal.

I prefer the President 6730, depending on the length of the rod perhaps a 6735 but thats the largest I would go. Good question.

I also am set up with a 8025 President XT for vertical and opted for the slightly larger 8025 Supreme for pitching on my XT69MLXF and LE66MLF.
The 8025 Pres will be fine for braid and if you use a small dia 6# mono you will still get 90+ yds on the spool…only a Big Cat, Carp, or Sturgeon will give you a problem…then either break off or lift anchor…heck you would still have to do that with a bigger reel!

I agree with JohnnyB the 6725 is a little small, I use mine for ice fishing. For a pitching application you need a larger spool to keep the line twist to a minimum.

I have the XT’s in 25, 30, and 35’s. The key is to balance the rod with the reel. The 35’s are a bit large and are a good fit for my 7’+ med length rods.

I use two sage 8′ flyrod blanks wrapped as a ultralite spinning rods. the 25’s are a perfect match for those
