Hey guys I am looking for new ways to catch walleye. I fish mainly man made lakes and resevoirs. I catch a lot of eyes but I only have three ways that I catch my fish. I either bottom bounce with livebait, flat line jigs jigs with live bait, or troll flat line crankbaits. I am just kinda getting bored doing the same three things all the time. You guys have any ideas on good tactics to use on those type of waters? Thanks for the help guys

One thing we do in southern Minnesota in the shallow lakes is cast different jigheads with twisters or different kinds of Gulp. This can work really well and be really fun.

What kind of jigs are you using? What gulps are u using? Do u need structure to do this? During what conditions do u do well with this? Like during cold fronts ect.

Have you ever tried ringworms ,paddletails or superdoos ?

They can be and have been a great way to catch walleyes in many bodies of water.

There are several very worthy post here about techniques on using them.

If I knew how to post them I would … Just start checking out some of past posts in the walleye forums.

I love using plastics and have great sucess with them.Jig’m drag’m pitch’m.

Another good way is blade baits

One of my favorite things to use is the Gulp Minnow Grubs with a regular jig head. We fish a lot of shallower lakes in Minnesota. What kind of lakes are you fishing. Shallower lakes are dirtier and brighter colors of Gulp work the best. The best time for this is the spring when the walleyes are in shallow. We have caught them right next to shore in less than a foot deep. Focus on the point and shore lines with sand and rock piles or spots that have shallow water dropping off to deeper. Islands are also good to focus on. And remember the windy shore lines are always the best even though they might be tougher to fish. Wind blowing into a good shoreline is always good.

Right or wrong , I use my trolling motor in low to no current to drag. Just increase or decrease speed until the fish tell you want they want.

I have always wanted to learn how to slip bobber for walleye. The main lake I fish I’ve never seen any guys slip bobbering for them. I’m not exactly sure why that is. The main lake I fish doesn’t have a whole lot for structure. It has some some points, a island, and a hump. We spend most of our time fishing big shallow water flats. Would it work to slip bobber on these flats or do you need to slip bobber on structure?

Trumar thanks for the help so far. So what exactly is dragging and how do you do it? I had never heard of it until I got on this site. Do you guys normally drag with plastics, live bait, or both.

Check out some of the videos here on IDO….there is a video about dragging baits on the Mississippi. You can utilize this on a lake also. You will just have to drift or use your trolling motor.
