Hey guys I have a trolling question. I run 4 rod holders off the side of the boat in the back and run 1 off each side in the front off the boat. I fish a lot by myself. When trolling by myself I run two rods. I run one out each side. Is there a way I can run 4 rods without haveing to put two of the rods on boards. Thanks for the help guys

An easy way to do this would be to run two forward long-line rods and two shorty leadcore rods off the corners. Run the long lines 150+ feet back to keep those baits away from the leadcore baits, and run the leadcore lines as deep as you need to in order to get those deep baits into the fish zone.

I have run two lines out the same side of the boat by running different lengths rods. Usually tip the shorter rod up and back a little bit. six footers on the inside and 9 on the outside. I run into a lot of trouble on tight turns so I usually just run the boards. Having baits with different dive curves helps. Such as a walleye diver on the inside and a jsr-5 shadrap on the outside.

I have done it many of times. A few things that I have found to help-

The person fishing with you kinda knows the program.

I run 6’6 or 7 rods in the back with them tipped up slightly and angling back at about a 45. Then I run 10’6 wild rivers up front with them tipped slighlty down. I run more line on the back ones and shorter amount of line on the front ones.

Keeping your turns gentle and not real sharp with help big time also.

You could also do as Jason stated and run two long lines and 2 leadcore.

Jason there is two problems with this. The first problem is that we don’t run lead. Our fish are normally caught in under 9 foot of water so we don’t really need to run lead. The second problem is we run two rod holders spaced a few feet apart. We don’t have rod holders off the corners. Any ideas on how to do this?

Not sure what water clarity you have but buying a pair of boards might be in your favor. If the water is anywhere close to being clear, fish are probably scattering out from the boat anyway. I run boards any time I’m in 14 feet or less. No matter what the water clarity is.

If I bought two boards would this let me run 6 rods?

Sure, two rods on boards up front and four out of the back holders. This is exactly what I do when I troll deep. I still vary the length/angle of my rods, amount of line, and dive curve on my baits respectivly.

You can run multiple rods by just useing smaller baits farther back & going larger as you move forward.I pull 6 flat lines frequently & have pulled up to 10 flat lines without the use of boards,4 mono & 6 running braid. This can get quite interesting! There are a few key things on running multi line sets!Get to know your rods, reading the rod when it gets so much as a small piece of weed on it & knowing its there before it lifts into another line or 2 if you make a swing or turn. Learning & or knowing dive curves on lures.Would highly suggest the Precision Trolling Bible, which gives alot of the most popular lures dive depths @ a specific distance back. This gives years of information learned making your time on the water more productive.Linecounters are a must for anyone who wants to be able to duplicate results time after time!Think I have a couple, well maybe closer to 25-30. This is my basic 6 rod flatline set.2-10’6″,2-8’6″ & 2-6’6″ all running 14lb fireline with rod brand of your choice, as stated earlier watching your rods when you know they are clean then you will be able to tell when a hint of anything is wrong.I wont be specific to rods as everyones budget is different.I might suggest having a IM6 or greater for telling fouled lures better. Now I am just giving this as an example!Lets say we are fishing a 12′-14′ flat.2-10’6 rods with a #5SR 150′ back,2-8’6’rods with #7SR 125′ back & 2-6’6″ rods with #8SR 100’back.You will notice every lure as line length & rods shorten has a deeper dive curve. This will give you a start & I could go on for a long while. Best of luck fishing all. WHITE TIP

Hey guys thanks for all the help. However now that I think about it I think nebraska law only allows you to run two rods per guy
