boos – couple things that have worked for me – go slow (sometimes stop & go slow) and run smaller baits (live or hard)…. Try those next time your on the water and let us know how it goes….

During cold fronts do u prefer leeches, night crawlers, or leeches for live bait? Doesn’t vertical jigging normally work pretty good during cold fronts.

One thing I try during a severe cold front is a lindy rig. I fish it very slow. I start out shallow and work toward deeper water until I find fish. I’ve caught bigger fish on leeches, but more with crawlers in general. Once I find a depth the fish seem to be holding I will then vert. jig the area very slowly.

    Just something I try…

Thanks for the help so far guys. During a severe cold front don’t walleye tend to move out deeper? What exactly is a lindy rig? I have heard of them but never used them.

The Lindy rig is a great way to livebait walleyes. The slip or walking type sinker which attaches to the main line allows you to let the fish run with the bait without feeling the weight of the sinker.

So is a lindy rig something u rig up on your own or do u buy them from somewhere?

I tie my own. That way you can adjust the length of the snell(length from hook to swivel), hook size, hook color, adding a bead or two, or my favorite…adding a small “spin-n-glo”(it’s a small white wing “twirler” that resembles a bee).
