Made it out thurs and friday. I hit the southern end of pool 11 and man do i need my head examined. At the launch you can see a long ways and all i saw was some really big rollers. The wind was blowing at about 20 mph out of the south. I said to myself once i get past the corner i’ll be ok. That was one wet ride and a little hairy too. Once i got to the spot i want to fish it was behind an island so it wasnt too bad. I targeted a long wingdam with alot of flow. I chose a 3/8 h20 precision jig with a oyster shell ringworm. I ended up getting 2 really nice eyes. Both about 22″. I lost a really big one maybe my pb. I was catching alot of sheepies so when i hooked into something big that acted like a sheepie i wasnt too exited. It was under the boat when it showed itself. Holy s#$%! its an eye. I leaned back to get the net and thunk there came the jig and down she went. I guess maybe around 27″ comparing to the other 2 fish. I had enough of the wind and waves so i went home. Water temp was up to 53. Today i hit the dubuque dam with some poor results. I thought with the storm coming in i would get some nicer fish. Caught alot of small saugers on same set up. The snow and rain started to blow straight in my face so thats all i needed to bug out. My sno-suit made it tolerable for a couple of hours. It can only get better from here i hope. I cant express enough the importance of wearing PFD’s when you go out in that kind of weather. Dan
