I know most of you have been stopped by a CO and had a bad experience……. I was out pulling rap’s for the walleye and all of a sudden this big Lund comes flying up to us. My buddy asked me if I knew who it was……I was like, nope. When he got a little closer I realized it was a Conservation officer. He slowed up I was about to start reeling in my gear when he yells over at about 20 yards away. Catching any walleye, I said it been pretty slow but we had managed to catch 2 eaters. He asked me if they were walleye or sauger. I said walleye. He asked how big and I said about 16.5″. I reached into the well and pulled out the two fish and he say’s they are fine. He’s now about 20 foot away and I’m still trolling. He asked if I had any life vests so we reached down on the floor and held up the vests. I then reached over and grab the fire extinguisher and held that up, he nodded his head. He then asked us for our licenses. It was my buddy’s first time out so we had just purchased it off the internet about 3 hours earlier. He says can you hold it up to my buddy. He is still 20 ft away off to the side, the whole time we are still trolling. He pulls out the binoculars and reviews his license from 20 ft away not sure if he could read it but I’m sure he could see the 08 symbol up in the corner. I then pulled my license out and he nodded his head. He asked if we had seen any body else out fishing and we said we had seen a few earlier. He the said have a nice day and off he went. The only thing that could have been better is if we would have picked up a fish while he was trolling along side of us. This was a first for me he never got closer than 20ft from my boat. He never asked us to real in so he could hook up and go through the routine. I wish I could have read his name tag……..if you (CO) by chance read this I want to thank you for being very considerate of our day on the water.
