Have you ever wondered why while jig fishing for walleyes why at ttimes they seem to prefer one style of bait over another? I have been wondering this my self. A person can go a few trips catching fish on say ringworms and then all of a sudden they want a hair jig or k grub and nothing to due with ringworms. My thoughts are that it shows the changing moods of the fish and some baits are more geared towards active or aggressive fish while others are geared towards less active or neutral fish. Here are a few common baits used for vertical jigging and pitching walleyes this time of year. Wondering how you guys would classify each one. Here is how Im thinking about it but curious to hear what others think.
K grubs=stiff body=neutral fish.
Ringworms=soft active body=active fish.
Super Doo= lots of action to tails =active fish.
Blade baits= vibrates, lots of action=active fish.
Paddle tails= stiff body=neutral fish.
hair jigs= little flutter of hair=neutral fish.
jig/minnow= Stiff body,little action =neutral fish.
Feel free to add any others you can think of or if you agree or not on my thoughts on this. Im also sure that how a person fishes each one of these baits would also influence its action and what mood of fish would go after it.
