I spent two days on the Chippewa river near Dunnville,Wi one walleye at 15″ and one HUGE smallie at 25″ that my scale said 5.8#.
Then I spent Labor Day with my son-in-law over on Wissota. It took us several hours to find some fish but when we did, oh boy!Between the two of us we put over twenty walleyes in the boat in just over an hour.Jigs and half crawlers either drug or lift-dropped was the ticket. Most of the fish were small, around 12″ with the largest at 16″.It was a whole lot better than “skunked”.
One side note,Wissota has a protected slot limit.Fish 14″ to 18″ MUST be returned to the water.
    Fish well !

Sounds about right. Our walleye fishery is primarily a numbers game, but the numbers are great and the average size is very respectable. A Wissota eater is just under 14, and the lake is a great place to spend the day tossing back fish after fish that measures in the mid-high teens.

    Congrats on that PIG smallie!

Thanx, great vid by the way. It’s not often I correspond with a TV mogel
They were biting sooooo light, not a rod in the boat could detect a hit.I had to leave the bail open and feel the resistance with my finger…then set and reel!Great fun and your correct way better than “skunked”.

Ah yes, the infamous wet rag bite. Typical of when there isn’t a lot of water moving in the river.

When we get some current going, the bite can be much more aggressive. It almost seems like the wet rag bites under those conditions come from the smallies, while the eyes are out whacking anything in their path.
