Just looking at getting 2 planers and dont like the current off shores due to the red clips always wearing out and not allowing the tattle tale to work as well. I know you can double loop it but even doing that sometimes they slip. Looked at Church Tackles’s and have heard good things about the durability of the adjustable tensioned clips. Any thoughts or opinions??

I gave away my church tackle planer boards since they seemed to always need adjusting when I changed from shallow cranks to deep divers of to bottom bouncers. Maybe you need to try a different release. I changed to or-18 snappers and have very little trouble with them. Occasionally, I will need to tighten the adjustment screw. I don’t use fireline on my trolling rods so I can’t say how well the snappers work with that type of line.

Another thing. . . I’ll bet you can attach a church tackle clip to your current boards. I’d thought about doing that at one time.

I’ve been running Off Shore brand and they are fine with the addition of OR-18 snaps if using 10 lb Fireline. However i’ve also shared a boat a few times this year where Church boards were used and they worked fine too. Also after the additional costs of the OR-18 snaps the Off Shore’s get to be quite a bit more costly so i’m not sure if i did it over i would go with the Off Shore’s but rather the Church’s. Functionaly they both are good and you can’t go wrong with either as long as you upgrade the Off Shore clips or double wrap the line around the snap.

That is what I have been finding also as without what I believe your calling the red clips the line just wears right through the pads thus causing the tattle tale not to work. Thanks for the info just wish they could toughen the plastic up so it wouldnt wear so quick.

Only if i have to. With the proper tension adjusted on the OR 18 snappers i do not have to double wrap the line with 10 lb fireline.
