Night tactics

Lately I don’t get much of any time to get out and fish during the day/morning but I do have time at night, say launching at 10pm.

I’d like to get out a little more and target some Walleye, just looking for some suggestions on how to go about it.

In the past I’ve lindy rigged my heart out, to no avail, it has yet to put a Eye in the boat, mostly with crawlers and leeches. Trolling isn’t the greatest option since there seems to be a good amount of free floating weeds to mess up you line.

The body of water I intend to fish is pretty much a bowl, there are a couple points only one has any real break to it.

More or less I’m looking for some suggestions of night tactics more so for stocked metro eyes.

I’m thinking about slip bobbering the points with a plain hook and live bait either leech, minnow or crawlers on the weededges of the points.

    Different Suggestions?

That being said I could be more specific on the particular lake, (pm me for specifics) but I’d rather this thead stay more general in nature and apply to more people and lakes, otherwise I would’ve put this thread in the metro forum.

P.s. Anyone want to do some late night fishing south metroish pm me.

My first tactic would be slip bobbering. Can’t go wrong with a leech. Next I would try casting plugs on top of the weeds or fan casting a weed line. Those eyes will move right up shallow after the sun goes down and put the feed bag on.

I agree slip bobber or casting a jig or my personal nightime favorite casting lure the X Rap. Try dark colors they seem to work best for me after the sun sets. Black back with the orange bellied X Raps put many a limit of nightime eyes in my frezzer.

Cover water man. troll and find the fish first. long line a floating rap over the weeds. a deep diving crank on the edge. or maybe a rattle bait like a rattle trap. if you find a spot were theirs a bunch, then get the bobbers out.A rattle bait at night in the summer can be a killer. Ps if its a true basin lake, with not much structure might have to troll cranks over the basin. Most likely your best bet. Been running a spinner and bouncer at night, latley with a gulp crawler. they like it alot.

I didnt see your weed problem take split shot and clamp it 8 ft ahead of your lures. then take a small bobber the kind for marking line on a tip up you know very small, and put that about 20 ft up your line when you get a fish the little bobber is real easy to get off. it will collect the floating weeds DK

I would go with a winter/ice fishing set-up. Works all year around on the metro lakes. Sweedish pimple or similar and the head of a fattie. Bouncing the bottom hard-real hard, then up about 3 feet off bottom, on the edge of the weeds. The bigger the jig the better. Windy conditions may make it tough. Also try trolling lindys across the beaches if out after dark. I’ve caught many eyes’ doing this on the city lakes.
