Just got back from the week up North. Big Sandy didn’t give up anything big, but my brother and I caught fish. Weather sucked, no good way to pattern the bite.

We then moved down to Mille Lacs. this was a great move! We fished the graveyard reef, and also scooted over to sloppy joe’s. Brother hadn’t fished Walleyes in years, so took him a while to git the hang of it. Caught some in the slot as well as some 23-27″‘s.

Those who chimed in on the leader length question I posted earlier, thanks again. The 9-10 foot way out did the 3-4’s, and also out did the 6-8’s, but not but much. And that floater added to the line with a few beads- right on!

    The story goes like this.

My Dad and I took my son Reid and his friend Trey out fishing on Mille Lacs on May 27th for some night bobber fishing. We got onto the lake just after 5:30 pm and set up on a small mud flat on the West side of the lake. We anchored and I began rigging the poles while carefully handing out instructions. I started with Trey’s pole and set his depth, had him put his leech on, and helped him cast it out into the water. This was Treys first time on Mille Lacs and he had never caught a walleye before. After his bobber reached its proper depth I looked to get the other poles set up. Two minutes passed and I looked out into the water and the bobber was gone. Trey wasnt watching too closely so I picked up the pole reeled in a few times, felt the fish, then set the hook. After the fish was set I gave the pole to Trey and said “its your pole and your fish”. Little did I know we would drag in this 30 1/8″ beauty. Not bad for his first fish. We high fived a few times, took a few pictures, released her back in the water to make memories for other fisherman.

Not my fish, but one my buddy caught out of my boat. A 22.5 inch Lake Wisconsin sauger. The slot limit on that lake has resulted in a lot more 20+ inch saugers showing up.

Always fun to go back to a lake you have not fished in a few years. Then find that the fishing is better.

This is the second 29″ fish my boat has seen in the past week. This one was caught by my guest Josh during the 2007 pool 4 ARM event. Way to go Josh!

A little story here. My mother wanted to go on a fishing trip for her birthday. She doesn’t like those new fangled reels aka spinning, and always talks about how well Zebco 202’s worked. Well I happened to have an old 202 laying around so I tossed it into the boat and gave it to her the morning of the trip. About 45 minutes later I look to the back of the boat as her pole is doubled in half. Not the smoothest landing of a fish but her best ever 28 incher made it to the net.

My brother’s personal best caught 6/25/07 on a 1/16th ounce BFT Draggin’ Jig (big fish blue) and a medium leech.

My biggest for the day was a 25″ fish caught on an orange draggin’ jig. Basically he smoked me in the big fish category. Since he was home from the navy on leave for the first time in two full years… I’m THRILLED that it worked out the way it did.

There’s not a lot of walleye fishing to be done on most of the naval bases in the south pacific. I guess he needed a hobby.

Here is my 1st Mille Lacs walleye and my personal best walleye. A good healthy 26″ I caught it 10 minutes after dropping my rig down. Red hook, small green glow bead, leech and 6ft snell.
