I love trolling spinners along weededges and flats in the early summer and throught the rest of the summer. When do you guys start to troll spinners such as water temperature and all. Any tips to size of blade or style. What is everyones favortie spinner rigs?

Smallest silver blade I can buy (not hammered…) then 5 small chartruese beads then a small red Gami hook. Deadly and I use it beginning May 12th if Jigs are not working…RR

As for temps, I will usually start when the water is around 50 degrees. The big thing for me, is when minnows start getting hit less then crawlers. I have different set ups for different types of spinner trolling.

For trolling with bouncers in the river or on the bottom of small lakes I usually use a # 3 Colorado blade with about 5-6 beads (usually 5mm or 6mm). I really like using stacker beads for a nicer profile.

For open water trolling in big water, I vary my blade size anywhere from 3’s to 7’s. I go bigger and brighter the farther I get from the bottom. I personally believe that big bright blades will bring the fish up more because they reflect more light. I also believe that the faster spin of the smaller blades near the bottom can be a huge draw. The blades don’t reflect as much light down there so the vibration and sound is huge (however sometimes they like the heavy thumping of a big blade near the bottom too).

One key I found is that a lot of times the fish prefer a spinner with a small bead above the clevis. I think this mimics an eye or part of the fish’s head. Some may not think it makes much of a difference, but it has for me.

I LOVE pulling spinner rigs all day!! I like to try different speeds and such, so you just gotta find what works. Switch up blades a lot too until you find ‘the one’. If you’ve got a few days of stable weather, and you’re fishing day 2 or 3 of it, then pull spinners and/or cranks. Can’t be beat.

I really like to pull spinners on bottom-bouncer rigs in the river. Last year I had some of my best days in the middle of the day..and nobody around. I start usually end of May on throughout the summer. I had some of my best outings during the “dog days” when everyone else was saying how tough it was. I also read in their posts they were sticking with traditional jig-n-minnow like stuff. Sometimes you need to branch out and learn new tactics. One thing about the river is if it’s workin’ one day…it may not the next! I have learned so much by reading posts here on this site. I have been fishing the river for years but only the last few have I really begun to figure a few things out. 5′-6′ floro for snells is a must and interchangable clevises (blade changes are so important).

B FISH N Spinners I love the redcraw color and the hot perch, depending on the day, even the hammered gold.
