I was wondering what set up do most people use for pitching jigs for walleyes. There rod and reel combo.

I personally prefer my 6’10” MLXF rods paired up with a Shimano CI4 2500,Suffix 832 6lb and Power Pro 6lb for line.

Ive got a 6’9 Limit Creek Smoothie paired with a Pflueger President. For line I’ve got 8 lb sufix elite.

+2 on the rod (found one at FF for $100 in March on clearance). size 30 President.

I’ve been using that set up for blades as well, although I have yet to have success using blades. Keep trying though.

A 6’8″ M XF Legend Tournament is my weapon of choice for pitching. I did pick up an Avid 610MXF that I’m very excited to try out

13 omen black in the 6’7″. Paired with Shimano stradic 2500 ci4+ for line I’m spoiled with suffix 832 6lb.

Is it possible to get 832 in 6 or 8 lb. test in spools larger than 150 yds? Can’t seem to find any.

Thanks Kevin. Does the neon green fade much? Was looking for the yellow, but may have to give the green a try.

I have not used it long enough to see any fading.

It is not as bright as the yellow, but still easy to see. Kind of a happy medium between lo-vis and hi-vis line.. I like it. Its the color of the skin of a ripe lime.

6’8″ LTMXF “Snap Jig” with a Stradic 1000 has been my go to rod for this application lately. PowerPro Superslick in Hi VIS

Whats is the argument between Medium action and Medium light action for pitching jigs?

I have been looking at getting a 7′ ML Fast St Croix Eyecon for jigging..

Depends on the size of the weight of the jig and size of the plastic.

I should elaborate a little on my reply. If you are pitching 1/16-3/16 baits and ringworms then the MLF is going to work great. If you are pitching 3/8-1/2 with big plastics to heavy seams, you will want a Med.

For the vast majority of pitching situations the MLF is going to excel.
