Jigging line

I am trying to decide to spool with braid or mono for jigging this upcoming spring. I like the feel of braid, but after talking with some fisherman they say mono is the way to go because it falls slower and allows your jigs to swim more. What are some of your thoughts and experiences with this.

I’m getting so I have very few reels spooled up with mono anymore. I like the braids for jigging.

What action rod are you using for jigging ?

I use only MLXF rods and I always use braid when jigging and mono while dragging jigs or plastics.

I use braid on all my jigging rods and tie a Fluorocarbon leader.
    Works for me.

I switched one setup to power pro late last year and was amazing for feel. But still love sensation for all jig applications, this year will be a test of the two.

10/2 power pro is what I use for pitching and vertical jigging.

After a few years with Braid I have switched back to mono. I just seem to have a better hookup percent with mono.

I like power pro 10/2 for throwing jigs and fishing plastics. But when I step down to live bait on light jigs, I go to 6# mono for a little added stretch (so I don’t rip it out of their mouths on light biters).

If I only had to choose one line, it would be yellow power pro 10/2.

I like 6lb mono for pitching current it sweeps better than brain due to the diameter. Braid vertical with floro leader works good. I find I get more bits with mono over braid. It really depends on every situation. I have extra spools with different test lines and color and braid. It pays to be versatal

I have seen several places recently where some good walleye guys have been saying they like mono because the current floats it better. I think this relates to casting presentations. For dragging I often use both, same with vertical. Doesn’t seem to make much of a difference there.

I love to jig with braid, but……. last here I learned my lesson. We were at RW in the fall, clear water, we were pitching jigs. The guy with me caught 10 to my 2. Took two guys over this past Monday, they both had braid, and I was using braid with a mono leader. Tough bite, but I caught three and they got the big hoop, O. So, in clear water I think it does make a difference, not so much in dirty water.

I generally agree. I was fishing last fall, too, in RW with two guys who were using mono. I was using braid with a mono leader and catching 3 fish to their 1 while drifting and jigging. In this case my theory is it was such a light bite the braid helped with bite detection. Or I was just lucky or something.

If I’m doing the vertical with hair or plastic thing I like either Crystal or Nanofil in about 6 pound, simply because of the sensitivity of these lines. A jig with bait will see a fluorocarbon line of 6 pounds and if I am dragging a jig or doing a three-way pulling anything I do the fluorocarbon but use 8 pound.

I honestly think that if you fish a line with confidence, that’s the line you should use. Its getting that confidence that can take some time.
