My dad and I are trying to plan a trip to rainy river this spring for some fantastic walleye fishing but really don’t no where to begin. I read and hear about this crazy bite so just curious what you all suggest as far as when to go and what area of the river to fish? Any suggestions on resorts or hotels in the area? Also, would we need a guide to get us started or can you find fish fairly easy this time of year? Thanks for any help and pointers

The time to go varies on the ice.The earlier the ice goes the better the fishing, the water has more time to warm up before the season closes. One of the most popular areas is the Birchdale landing.I don’t think you will need a guide ,there will be a lot of boats on the river and it’s really not rocket science.Jig and minnows work as well as anything, soft plastics are fine too.The higher the water the farther up stream they come.( it has been my experience) as far as place to stay ..pm me…last year with late ice there was really a short window of time to get on the river. Can’t wait

    Hi Rev –

I have two spots reserved in the Rainydaze Rainy River Run hosted by Chris of the Rainydaze guide service. I was planning to take my father but our plans have changed. This would be a really good option for you as it includes lodging at the Thunderbird Lodge, meals, pre-trip guide seminar, spot (on the water) guide service, door prizes, chance to win a replica mount and more. You would be arriving on Sunday April 6th and fishing the 7-9th. This is a sold out event and we are disappointed we can’t attend.

Please contact me if you would like more information via PM or mobile.

Thanks Ted, I had seen your add but couldn’t remember who posted it. Glad you saw this, it’s the trip I recommend to him via a PM.
