It’s generally easier getting someone to help you move than it is to get help with Minnetonka walleyes. I can give you some help though. Generally you want to fish around sunset/sunrise. That is when they will be most active. And most of the walleye that I have caught have been eating small perch, but they bite OK for me on fatheads. Don’t expect to get much action, best I have done in one evening (5 hours) is 6 hits. If you are fishing during the day, you might need to go deep. Look for fish in 30+ feet of water and try there.

If you want action, go for bass/northern. If you want a fish dinner, a northern after the water has cooled down below the 70’s is just as good as walleye IMHO. If you don’t know how to get the Y-bones out, search the web for help.

Hope this gives you something to start.

    Good luck!

Pitching jigs in current areas around bridges can be really productive this time of year on. The best bridges have wind blowing into them creating even more water movement. Suckers around 6″ can be a great choice when going after the big bite with a 1/4oz jig. Don’t be afraid to go to 2-8 feet around sunset and later. Otherwise it’s never a bad option to fish a #7 shallow shad rap, either casting around some of the rockier areas around the Arcola and hardscrabble areas. With the zebes taking over, there isn’t a whole lot of shallow action, and it can be a hot and cold bite anyways. Pressure is one thing that can kill this bite, so look for bridges without a gang of anglers around it! Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!

hit tonka on saturday for a few hours…. marking fish from 18 to 24 fot….. picked up a few small perch and that was it. saw one guy get a walleye in a channel bobber fishing but all we got were bass on cranks sounded like most of the walleye action was at low light periods… of course
