I am thinking of buying the Pflueger Supreme Spinning reel to put on my Fenwick Elite 6’6″ jigging rod, what are your opinions is will this be a great set up?
    Thanks.

I love all my Pflueger reels. Make sure to get the right size reel to balance out your rod, bring it in store if you have to. I have a very small reel on my vertical jig, but it balances it perfectly when layed flat, and hasn’t ran out of line yet. Last thing I would want for me vertical jigging is to struggle with the rod tip going up or down the whole time, too much wrist action, and that is what my beer is for.

They are sweet. Try the 8225 on that jig rod.

Not a great reel when it gets really cold, but I have a couple of them, and above 40 degrees, they are excellent.

Try some sub zero frabil grease or something similar when you take them apart and clean them next. Or even mix some of it in with the existing grease. It will make a huge difference in the colder temps!

I really like the couple I have. Get either the 25 size mentioned before or the 30 size, no bigger. I use the 30 size but I am 6′ 5″ 230 lbs and I like them a little bigger for my hand comfort. Cold and wet weather cn be an issue but as said before a fresh grease job does wonders.

Maybe they pack the newer reels with better lube but I had the purist and president out in Monticello last winter many times including a couple -15 wind chill days and they performed wonderful. The bail wouldn’t close a couple times but that was due to ice build up. I’m sure the supreme would perform just as well.
