Spent yesterday afternoon fishing with Mike Hutter & his dad John. Fishing definitely wasn’t fast & furious but we managed to take six keepers out of 12 fish caught plus this brute sauger that Mike fooled using a chartreuse green core paddletail on a 3/8oz precision jig head.

The sauger measured 22-1/4″ long. I’m guessing it weighed in around 4-1/2lbs.

Chartreuse green core & gold cracker/chart paddle tails were our best plastics yesterday.

Nice to meet and fish with yet another fellow IDO’er.

Special thanks to your dad, John Hutter. He showed some exceptionally quick reaction abilities when he snared one of my St. Croix Avids out of mid-air before it landed in Lake Wisconsin. Totally my fault. I was trying to hand him the rod, reaching behind me and not paying attention to whether or not he actually had a hold of it before letting it go. I’m not sure I can move that fast anymore but sure am glad you dad can.

    Thanks again Mike & John!
It was fun fishing with you two.

    Way to go Joel!

Mike, that’s an awful nice looking fish. Should have held it a little higher though if you’re going to put it on your wall.

Thanks for the trip Joel, it was a good time. Hopefully now dad will actually get out and use his new boat, but not likely. Let me know if you are up this way some time and want to give the Croix a try.

Dandy sauger. Not many slot fish for us this fall. Maybe when it gets closer to ice up.
