After a little break from Pokegama last week I got back out on Sunday. We started the morning off by searching some deep water reefs and sunken humps and weren’t finding a lot of fish. After about and hour of searching we found some fish on a sunken reef schooled pretty tight and were able to pull a nice 29 3/4″ on our first pass with a 6 foot snell and a crawler.

After that the fish went into lock jaw mode for about 4 hours. We were marking a lot of nice fish and schools and couldn’t seem to get anything to go. We were rigging and spinning with crawlers and leeches and no takers. We tried 5 different spots and finally went back to the first spot we checked in the morning that wasn’t holding any fish but this time it was littered with walleys on the bottom, first pass within two minutes we pulled a 27 1/2″. After that we pulled a few 21″ and 22″ inch few all on leeches with a 6 to 8 foot snell.

After a couple hours those fish shut off and we headed to one last spot before the end of the trip and on the last pass were able to pull a 26″ on a leech.

After a long morning of fishing it turned out to be a pretty good day on the water. After talking to some other guys the lake it sounded like we weren’t the only ones having a tough morning, thankfully the afternoon turned out a little better.

Good job. Those fish have some shoulders!

Thanks for a good day of walleye fishing and a good time on the water. If a guy wants to learn how to use electronics to find nice structure and locate walleyes on the structure I highly recommend hiring Mike Leclaire. Looking forward to fishing with you again Mike
    Thanks

Next time Mike let’s hope the fish cooperate a lil bit more in the morning, I am looking forward to getting you out on the water for a good night bite.

The fish on Pokegama are starting to put some of there summer weight on and their shoulders should only continue to get bigger as we begin our descent towards fall. That’s when you want to get that BIG 30″ fish to put on the wall.
I caught a 28″ last year in October Rap fishing under the full moon that went 10.5 lbs.

Just got the rap fishing report from some locals and the eaters are biting early in the morning on the flats in 8-12 feet of water from 2am til 6am. You can bet I will be getting up a little earlier for tomorrow and doing some fishing before work.
