I was looking for another walleye combo so when im out in the boat i wont be retying hooks as often and can have another technique ready at my finger tips. i have a 6’6″ pfluger president/st croix triumph combo that i have been happy with. but i was wondering what combo for lindys, throwing cranks, and jigging you would use if you could only have one in the 120$ price range? thanks

A 7ft St. Croix Eyecon med. light with a fast tip. The length of the rod will be perfect for flinging light crankbaits as well as offering a perfect length for lindys & jigs. You could even use this rod as a corkin’ rod. Great sensitivity plus backbone, good quality, good price, all around great value

I have been fishing off the dock – with a Zebco 202 and I can tell you this in NOT what you are looking for….

Good for pannies – not so good for larger fish….

My 3 year old likes it!!!!

I’ve never tried one but a lot of guys like the 6’9″ limit creek rod.

The Smoothie is integral in my arsenal of rods for Guiding for Bass and Walleye. I have two set up for Drop shotting and unweighted Senkos. They also work great for pitching small blades, light jigs/plastics and most other walleye techniques.

If you opted for a St. Croix, I believe you would need to move up to an Avid series to match the LC 69MLF. The other rods I carry for Walleye are (2) LC66MFs for vertical jigging and (2)St. Croix LX70MFs for working heavier jigs/plastics.

Ok ill make sure to cross the zebco off my list. Im sure glad i read this before investing all that money!
But seriously i will handle both rods and see which one i prefer. I think ill throw a shimano sahara or another pfluger on for the reel.

The reel is a excellent choice – I’d step up to one of the Eye-con rods. You just can not go wrong with the St. Croix rods

My opinion is don’t get the Sahara for a reel. When shimano changed things a few years ago. They blew it on the bail. The line catches before it gets to the roller especially with thinner diameter line. I’d go with the pflueger or I tried the Abu Garcia Orra S. I picked one of these and an orra sx and these are smooth reels. I like them as much as my older saharas if not better. Otherwise upgrade to the symetre. The bails are nicer on them.

So i was just cecking out the St.croix website and even though it has specific techniques listed the eyecon will still be apropriate for other aplications i assume? Thanks

You are correct, they can be used for other techniques too. I personally like longer rods for my all puropse rods, if you’re looking for something that you can pitch jigs and cast cranks with its a very small list in my book. Cranks are hard on almost any spinning rod, that said the extra length helps with that as well. I second the limit creeks can love my smoothie for pitching jigs although its a little light for casting small crankbaits. I would either get a medium exta-fast st. croix or the 8ft 3in limit creek, leaning more toward the limit creek. Like I said I link the extra length to absorb some of the shock. I don’t believe that there is a rod that will handle light jigs and deeper diving cranks though at least very well.
I would match your rod with a pfleuger arbor reel. I love mine that I got on Deans recommendation.
