The first week of June we went to the family’s cabin North of Sioux Lookout for a week of finishing off the cabin and also get some fishing in… Was able to finish off most of the interior of the cabin including a wood stove, kitchen cabinets, counter tops, sink, cook top stove, gas lights, and insulating the ceiling. Amazing we got this much done in a week and also have time to fish but we did. I am really fortunate to have a skilled carpenter as a friend of the family. The cabin lacks electricity and it is amazing what you can accomplish with the proper skill set, materials, tools, and a generator.

The fishing was amazing over the week and we were blessed with some great weather. We were able to fish in the evenings after a long day working and caught them mostly on plastics…Tried minnows (live and preserved) but plastics worked best. Fished with twisters, paddle tails, moxies, and fluke jr.’s (top bait was a white fluke junior). Amazing these Northern On. lakes seem to fish best with plastics vs. live bait.

The average size of the fish was around 16″ to 18″ but still alot over 20″ and biggest 24 1/2″. We were able to go 15 cast/15 fish one evening until a Northern broke his line on the 16th cast. Fishing evenings and a couple full days we managed to catch 500+ walleyes in a week.

Plan on return in August for a later Summer trip.

I may entertain renting out our cabin for a week in July for the right party. Send me a PM if interested.

Having been to KWP’s cabin on several occasions, I can honestly say it’s the most enjoyable fishing trip.

The cabin is terrific, just show up, unroll your sleeping bag, and grab a rod. No waiting for planes and hoping the weather doesn’t go in the crapper.

The fishing is great, but the thing I enjoy is that the walleyes aren’t pushovers. Every trip you have to work you way around until you find them. Different tactics, different presentations, differnt locations every time. We always find them, but sometimes it takes some time and thinking to really dial them in.

Nice to see the size and numbes of fish on this trip, KWP. Looking forward to August.
